It is our great pleasure to invite you for the International Webinar on the theme "Antibiotic Resistance: Renewed Fight" being jointly organized by American Society for Microbiology and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi on 7 - 8 October, 2020
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the biggest challenges to the mankind during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and a continuously expanding global threat. In our fight for survival, we have been constantly in a tug-of-war with the bugs. In this endeavor, antibiotics have been our biggest weapon and one of the greatest medical advances of the 20th century. With the use of antimicrobials, microbes have evolved their means to escape, often surpassing the pace of anti-microbial development. Irrational use of antimicrobials has further worsened the situation in pathogens favor. With most of our anti-microbial arsenals reaching a point of exhaustion, we are rapidly approaching a scenario that may be no different from pre-antibiotic era. Bacteriophages, Antimicrobial peptides, nanomolecules, re-purposing of drugs, combination therapy, targeting intrinsic antibiotic resistance etc are potentially emerging as effective alternatives to traditional antibiotic therapies. These novel approaches need a greater attention from scientific community to prepare ourselves for this imminent danger. Therefore, we must have renewed fight using this armamentarium to counter AMR in the current situation.
In line with the World Health Organization's Global action plan on antimicrobial resistance and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare's National Policy for Containment of Antimicrobial Resistance, it will be our endeavor through this webinar to highlight the new strategies to fight AMR and bring everyone on one platform. We are partnering with ASM, CDC-India, NCDC & IAMM for the webinar. This webinar will be beneficial for all Clinicians, Microbiologists, Infectious Disease Specialists, Basic Scientists, Pharmacists, Private Practitioners, Medical Students, all stake holders & as well as for the general public in policy making for reduction in AMR.
